Male Plastic Surgery

Once thought to be a process used only for women to keep a youthful appearance as they aged, plastic surgery is increasingly being undertaken by men for many of the same reasons. With the cultural emphasis on youth and beauty, men are turning to surgical procedures to retain their youthful looks or to enhance and improve upon what nature has given them. It is not just for the sake of vanity men are increasing their concern over superficial bodily perfection. All too often it is required to gain promotion and acceptance in the job market and advances in their careers.

Hair loss has long been an embarrassment for men. Hair replacement therapies using transplants and non-surgical treatments have a long history. Now various types of body sculpting have become popular with men to create the illusion of strength and fitness without suffering through the long processes of exercise and good diet. Liposuction to remove excess fatty tissue, facial surgery and implants, body hair removal, chest and leg implants, male breast reduction, and even penile enhancements and enlargements have become increasingly undergone to form a better looking male body.

These processes become very tempting for men as they pass through their 30’s and begin to see the telltale signs of aging. Younger men who do not have the time or inclination to spend long sessions at the gym can get pectoral implants and leg enhancements to get the six-pack abs and muscular look if they are willing to brave the potential dangers of surgery. Generally any male with feelings of inadequacy about their physical looks are candidates for male plastic surgery.

This seeming need for males to enhance their looks has grown into a $3.5 billion dollar a year industry. Doctors and surgical clinics are increasingly opening up to handle this demand. There is not a major city in the United States that does not sport at least one such operation. A quick online search will reveal not only the practitioners who perform these services, but also an idea of just how much the cost will be.

These artificial male enhancements are not without risk. One should be healthy and preferably a non-drinker and smoker before hazarding the surgeon’s art. Even elective surgery contains some of the same risks as emergency surgery. Anesthesia can cause abnormal heart rhythm, nerve and brain damage, and the risk of stroke or a heart attack. Male plastic surgery is not a guaranteed process. Sometimes the results may create a worse look than what was started with. Always investigate the credentials of the person performing your plastic surgery. Finding a properly trained and equipped doctor will save much grief even if they are, justifiably, more expensive.
